Hi chamblee54! Great comment! I agree you do have a good point about listening to the nature around you. In fact my latest walk was in the rain under my umbrella and I did not carry my music player with me. I have to say though that music has been a huge part of my life. When I was a child I owned a little black hand held AM/FM radio my mother gave to me for Christmas.... or maybe it was my birthday, and I would sit out in the yard with it for hours at a time listening to it. When I was a teenager I carried a boom box with a cassette deck on it and I remember carrying that big thing with me through the woods and recording my favorite songs onto a blank cassette when they came on the radio.... and then when walkmans and portable cd players came along I had one of those as well. All my life I've always had some sort of music player that I carried with me when I was out somewhere. With my mp3 player I now have all of my favorite music in a tiny little device that I carry in my hand. It would be unnatural for me to be out walking without it and not hearing my favorite songs. I guess you could say that I am trained for it and that I have an appreciation for nature around me as well as my music which keeps me going at a steady pace when I'm working hard at losing those extra pounds. I hope that my next post will reflect that in me.

I like to walk and bicycle. However, I do not own an mp3 player. I like to listen to the birds, wind, and the freight trains. There is so much to hear and enjoy in the world, and you miss it when you listen to recorded music.
