The Knitting Men Of PSU Altoona

Sunday, August 31st, 2008

I found this video on YouTube as I was searching for videos of men knitting. Why would I be searching youtube for videos of men knitting you say? Because I want the haters in the world with closed minds to see that knitting is not just a hobby for women…… that, and I was looking for content I could possibly add to my shop when I get it online.

Missed The Sale No Business Yet

Sunday, August 31st, 2008

The sale at Powweb ends tomorrow and I still haven’t come up with a name for my business yet. So it doesn’t look like I’ll be starting up my business again for a little while. That is ok though, I really wasn’t ready anyway. I had just gotten excited because they had a huge sale on their hosting plan and I wanted to take advantage of it, but since I have been with Powweb for a few years now I know they will be having another huge sale in the future. So I’m just going to keep working on adding new items to my inventory and try to come up with a cool name for my hemp jewelry and knit shop so that the next time a big sale at powweb comes along I’ll be ready to start my new business.

Crap I Need A Business Name Crap My Mind Is Blank

Saturday, August 30th, 2008

I just checked over at my webhost’s site and noticed they are having a labor day sale on their website hosting packages. I would really love to take advantage of that sale for my new craft business I’m planning to start up…. but the only thing holding me back is the fact that I haven’t yet come up with a cool and catchy name for my little knit and hemp jewelry shop.

You guys don’t know it because I haven’t really talked much about it, but I’ve been spending a lot of time getting all of my craft supplies organized and working on creating new stuff to go into my online shop………… Ok, I just told a lie…. actually I’ve been doing a lot of knitting and crocheting to make new scarfs in between pulling boxes out of my supply room trying to get my craft supplies organized. I had meant to do the organizing first but everytime I pulled a box out of the room I got new ideas for stuff I wanted to make and so the organizing part got put aside…. now I have a living room full of boxes scattered all over the floor and there are multiple unfinished knitting and crocheting projects lieing around waiting to be finished….. All of this is because over the past few weeks since I started my money saving crusade I decided that it was time for me to get back into my beloved craft business and well I’ve gone absolutely crazy with it trying to do everything I need to do all at once to get back into it. So things are a little crazy in my house right now…. but it is ok. I am having a lot of fun getting back into my crafts and plans for the new business.

So anyway, the sale at Powweb is only gonna last for two more days. So I’ve got to think of a name for the business pretty quick if I’m gonna take advantage of that sale which would give me a year of hosting for around $50 dollars which isn’t bad. If I can’t think of a name for the business before the sale runs out I’m just gonna hold off on buying to domain until the next time they run a sale. To be honest I am really nowhere near ready to kick off a new site for the business but it would be nice to take advantage of that sale and at least already have the domain for when I am ready to start.

Puffins Of The North Sea Declining

I love birds and this story saddened me a bit this morning when I read it. I discovered the article while browsing through StumbleUpon. These birds are absolutely beautiful birds and for some reason they seem to be dieing out. According to the article, scientists are not sure what the problem is exactly. I never knew these birds existed until I found this article and I hope that they don’t go extinct. That would be very sad as they are really cool looking birds I think. They look almost like penquins except they can fly and they can dive deep down under water. I think it’s amazing that these birds stay in the water through the winter and only return to land during breeding season. Follow this link to read more about these birds and see some more really beautiful photos of this species.

Save Money By Melting Your Deoderant

Thursday, August 28th, 2008

I discovered something really cool today and I want to share my discovery. Today as I was finishing up in the bathroom after my shower I was putting on my deoderant and as it always happens I got to the bottom of the tube and the little bit that was left over popped out and fell onto the floor. Well I got mad and started thinking that there must be a way to save that little bit of deoderant to use instead of throwing it away time after time. So I did a google search and I found the answer to my problem here.

Who would have ever guessed that you can melt your deoderant in a microwave and pour it into another deoderant tube and that it only takes a few minutes to do it!? I can personally say that this works because I tried it myself. I use Axe Vice deoderant and it melted perfectly and poured into a new deoderant tube very easily. I do have a word of caution for you if your going to do this. Melted deoderant is very hot and that little bit left in the tube melts very quickly. Be very careful when pouring into another deoderant tube. I must say this is a very smart idea and I guarantee there won’t be any more wasted deoderant in this house…… Oh yes, and another word of caution for all of you people who may be a little retarded when it comes to using common sense….. this does not work with spray can deoderants so don’t be putting any spray cans in your microwave.

My New Blog Coming Soon

Wednesday, August 27th, 2008

First off I want to apologize to all of my readers for not updating lately. I’ve just kinda been kicking back at home just chillin’ out and playing my video games, working on craft projects, and watching the rain outside from my living room window. We have been getting a lot of rain for the past week! It looks like the next few days might be sunny however. Some of you may have noticed that I haven’t posted a Monday Muscle Madness post this week, and I can’t remember if I posted it last week either. Well, I think I’m going to stop the Monday Muscle Madness thing and take on a new venture with a new blog on blogger where I’ll be sharing a higher volume of my favorite hot guy pictures that I’ve collected over the years. I figured I’ve collected them, I may as well share some of them. So I’ve been trying to come up with a clever name for the blog. Something really cool and unique to start it off with, but so far I haven’t come up with any bright ideas yet. So over the next few days I’m just going to try getting some of my pictures organized and ready for uploading to the new blog when it gets ready to go. It should be pretty fun and it just may be more exciting than my personal blog here on this site haha.

My Crusade To Save Money Part 2

Thursday, August 21st, 2008

Well it’s been three weeks now since I started my crusade to get back on the money saving track and I am happy to say that I have been doing fairly well. I can’t say exactly how much money I have saved but I can say that I have cut back a whole lot on spending money in general. In three weeks I have only allowed myself to buy one or two used Nintendo Wii games, one or two t-shirts, and only one trip to the lake which is where I went today. I have a star system I go by on my wall calendar to keep up with how well I’m doing at saving my money. On days that I don’t spend any money at all I put a red star on the calendar for that day. I started this crusade eighteen days ago and I have thirteen stars on the calendar during that time period. These red stars also indicate days that I stayed home. Thirteen out of eighteen days is a lot of time for someone like me to be staying cooped up at home and not going anywhere. I have been making the most of that time however by finding things around home to do such as playing my video games, trying to complete things on my to do list, blogging, getting back into my arts and crafts, exercising and working out, going for walks, and watching television. Over the past three weeks I’ve started getting a little used to staying at home more and I am finding out that it isn’t all that bad as long as I find things to keep myself busy and keep reminding myself that the goal is not to get out and go somewhere where I would be tempted to make a lot of unnecessary purchases. I am also learning to feed myself at home and stop driving somewhere to eat all the time. I am noticing lately that the price of gas is coming down a little. Gas was $3.38 per gallon today. That is a whole lot better than what it has been costing most of this summer and that will help me save a little money as well. Anyway, like I said, I don’t know how much I have saved over the past three weeks and if I did I wouldn’t tell the amount here in my blog but I can say that I have saved a good bit compared to how much I wasn’t saving before when I was spending irresponsibly. Let’s see how well I do over the next three weeks.

My First Round Crochet Blanket

Tuesday, August 19th, 2008

A few days ago I showed you a scarf that I’m working on to wear this winter. Today I want to show off this round crochet blanket I started crocheting Sunday afternoon when I got home from work. This is something I am just making up as I go along and my pattern isn’t perfect but it is good enough I guess. The blanket doesn’t lie perfectly flat because I put a few too many increases in some of the rounds but I am trying to correct that by decreasing the amount of increased stitches. I wanted to have a sort of fishnet style stitching in the blanket so it is basically double crochet, chain 1 stitching around and around with one round of increases and one round of even stitching. My plan is to make it just big enough to cover the top of my queen size bed so it will be big enough to use as a bed spread or a furniture throw. I don’t think it is going to take more than eight balls of yarn to make this and I think if I can spend at least one hour working on it each day then I should be able to finish this in about a month. I was inspired to start making this by this girl’s round blanket posted on craftster. Her blanket however is done with half double crochet stitches. I knew that wouldn’t work for me because I crochet pretty tight and half stitches would have taken me forever to produce a blanket like this. So there it is, another yarn project I am currently working on. I hope to be able to show you the finished product around this time next month or sooner. So far at this point the blanket is only about 18 inches across.

Update: I am afraid I have sad news. My blanket wasn’t turning out the way I had planned. In this second picture you can see the progress I made today and also that the blanket had a slight ruffle in it that I was totally not satisfied with so I ripped off the carrot colored yarn to be used in my next project which I will be bringing up in my next couple of posts. Oh and if your wondering what I’m doing with the baby blue part of this crochet flop, it is going into a basket as a reminder to better construct my patterns in the future instead of just winging it.

A New Scarf For Me

Saturday, August 16th, 2008

I just wanted to show off this new 1X1 rib stitch scarf that I am knitting for myself to wear this winter. I actually started this scarf back in the spring but when summer came along I got to busy doing other things and I forgot all about it. Well over the past couple of weeks I have been trying to make myself pick it up and work on it. I have spent a lot of time working on it this weekend. In fact, I just finished spending two hours on it and my hands and fingers are a little sore because it’s been quite awhile since I spent that much time all at once knitting anything. Anyway, this is going to be a birthday present to myself this year, but I don’t know if I will get finished with it before my birthday gets here on September 1st. If I’m not finished by then it won’t be a big deal since it really doesn’t start getting too cold here in Alabama until around October anyway.

I have had a lot of fun over the past couple of days working on this scarf. It is the first 1X1 rib stitch scarf I have ever worked on and I must say that even with all of the flip flopping of the yarn back and forth over the needles it is going along quite fast. I guess I’ll keep knitting rows until I decide it’s long enough. I am planning to do something different with this scarf that I have never done on one of my scarfs before. I am going to attempt to put a crocheted slip stitch fringe on the ends of the scarf when I finish knitting it. I have seen crocheted fringe on a couple of scarfs other people have made and I kinda like the look of it.

Anyway, this is my current knitting project. Well, actually I have a few knitting projects going on right now, but this is my main one. I really want to get this finished soon so that I can start working on some new winter caps. I am thinking that I might open up a new shop online at the end of summer and start selling my caps, scarfs, and jewelry again.

I just realized that 90 percent of my current blog readers probably don’t know that I love to knit and do lots of other crafty things since I really haven’t blogged much about it over the summer. Well it looks like I have caught the knitting bug again so there will probably be a lot of knitting related posts coming and just possibly a new online store where you can buy my hand made things.

Postcards From Rich

Wednesday, August 13th, 2008

I don’t get to go to the post office as often as I like these days since I am really trying to cut back on my driving to save money. Today however was a necessary day to get out and run some errands, so I decided to stop by the post office to check my mail. I was delighted to find two postcards in my box. The top one is a view of Washington D.C. and the bottom one has a beautiful artistic drawing of San Francisco, California scenery. Thank you Rich, whoever you may be and wherever you may be for sending these. It really made my day today after being stuck at home all week. My favorite one is the San Francisco card with the cable car and view of Alcatraz.

Aiptek PocketDV AHD 300 Camcorder

Monday, August 11th, 2008

Add this to my want list.

Aiptek PocketDV AHD 300 1080p High Definition Camcorder [AHD 300 HD SDHC Camcorder]

Aiptek has been producing these little camcorders for quite awhile now and I have always wanted to buy one, but I never got around to doing it because I always needed something else or I just really didn’t feel like a video camera purchase for me would be worth the money I’d be spending since I really have no life and never really go anywhere…. you get the picture. Well I came across this camcorder on another blog and I want one. The reason I want one so bad is because someday hopefully in the next couple of years I am going to buy a big screen high definition television set and this little camcorder would be the perfect accessory for it since it records in full 1080p resolution. It also has a web mode which can record videos for youtube and other similar online video sites.

It has 128MB internal memory which is almost nothing really, but it uses SDHC cards up to 32GB which can give you up to 8 hours of high definition recording, 1080p high definition resolution (1440 x 1080 pixels, 16:9) at 30 frames per second, recording 1 hour 1080p high definition movie with one 4GB SD card, up to 8 Mega-pixels still images, and to charge it you simply plug it’s usb cable to your computer.

The best part about it is that it costs around $250 dollars which I don’t think is a bad price to get high definition video recording in such a small device.

Monday Muscle Madness Volume 13

Monday, August 11th, 2008

Last week I started a new workout routine which I hope will help me get in better shape. So to honor that I decided to post this picture for this weeks Monday Muscle Madness. Hopefully the embarrassment this picture will bestow on me will help to give me a little more motivation to work harder at getting in shape. Yes, I know I don’t look anything like the muscle men I’ve posted pictures of over the last 12 weeks, but I am trying at least.

So yeah, I just started lifting weights last week. I am starting out slow. I don’t want to overdo it too much until I get used to the lifting. I am working out three days a week on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Currently I’m focusing on four exercises with my 30 pound dumbbell set. Those exercises are bicep curls, tricep lifts, squats, and bent over flys. I think these are ok for starting out since I get a decent arm workout as well as shoulders and legs.

I have also discovered FitTV which is a channel that broadcasts workout shows so occasionally I turn that on and do cardio workouts, but I’m also going to try keeping up with my walking routine except I won’t be going out for those long 8 mile walks three days a week like I was doing earlier this summer. The weather is just too hot for doing things like that right now.

So I guess that is it for this weeks Monday Muscle Madness. I promise I won’t horrify you next week with my fat ass again, but I will make it a point to post another picture of my progress in the future. Maybe I’ll do that in another 13 weeks which will be around the middle of November.

I Love Monday’s

Monday, August 11th, 2008

Most all of you out there who reads my blog don’t know that I work only on the weekends and have Monday through Thursday off every week. I guess I’m writing this post to make all of you jealous out there because while most everyone is at work sweating their balls off today, I am sitting at home watching music videos on YouTube, playing my video games, and enjoying not having to do anything at all. Monday’s for me are the best days out of the week. Those are the days when I can plan to do anything I want to do, or plan not to do anything at all. As I write this post it is currently 10:41 a.m. and I have no idea what I’m gonna do with the rest of the day and do you know what…. it doesn’t matter what I do today, because it is Monday and I don’t have to do anything at all. So, for all of you out there working today, just think of me sitting at home enjoying the lazy life. Try not to be too jealous hehe. :-)

Puzzle Quest Challenge Of The Warlords

Thursday, August 7th, 2008

Let me tell you about my new favorite Nintendo Wii video game. It is called Puzzle Quest: Challenge Of The Warlords. I have been wanting this game for awhile and I found a used copy last night at Gamestop. This game if you don’t already know is a mashup of RPG play with a bejeweled type battlefield. On the Nintendo Wii, the text in this game can be hard to read if you have a small television set, but I have read that if you have a large screen television then it’s not so bad. I had already read reviews on the game so I knew not to expect extravagant graphics and text. What I didn’t know however from the reviews I read was how addictive this game is. For the game play alone I can mostly get past having to squint my eyes to read the tiny text and I feel like this is going to be a game with a lot of replay value so when I am ready to upgrade to a big screen television then I’ll be able to enjoy it even more when that time comes.

When I got home with this game last night around 10 p.m. I turned it on, set up character, started playing the instant action battles and did not turn the game off until around 3:30 a.m. this morning. I just couldn’t stop playing. I haven’t yet started into the quest yet. I want to level up my character a good bit. I haven’t played a role playing game in many years and I am having fun just collecting spells and leveling up. If I had known how much I would like this game I would have bought a brand new copy instead of a used one, but so far I haven’t had any problems with the used game.

There is a new Puzzle Quest game coming out called Galactrix with a science fiction theme, but so far I don’t think it is going to be available for the Nintendo Wii and I will be really angry if they don’t make it for the Wii because I really want that game.

My Newest Reason To Be At Home On Teusday Nights

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

His name is Evan Bourne on the ECW, and he is fucking hot! It’s been a long time since a wrestler has had me standing up in my living room jumping up and down with excitement over his talent, but tonight I couldn’t help myself. I have never seen a WWE wrestler fly across the ring like this guy did. I think he will fast become one of my favorite wrestlers. I can’t wait to see him again on tv next week.
