Eleven New Beanies Finished

Wednesday, November 12th, 2008

I’ve been working hard since my last post trying to get as many new caps finished as I could. I have two new hand knit beanies finished in my 2X2 ribbed pattern…. I really need to come up with a name for these caps since it sounds a little retarded describing them as 2X2 ribbed pattern beanies. I got to work on designing a new shell stitch pattern beanie for women and I have seven of those completed now. Oh yeah, if anyone remembers awhile back, I was creating a mesh stitch beanie for men that I was having trouble getting the sizing right on… well I have pretty much gotten that pattern squared away and will soon start producing beanies in that style as well. You can see me modeling one of my mesh beanies below. Let me show off my latest beanies.

First up is this blue camo stripes beanie. It’s pretty much the same pattern printed yarn as the green stripes beanie I did awhile back only it’s done in blue.

Next up is this beanie in white, blue and purple shades. It is called Sea Spray Stripes. I think the colors in this one would be more suited for women although some guys might like it as well.

Here is a bunch of women’s shell stitch beanies I’ve been making along with two of my men’s mesh style beanies.

And finally I wanted to model one of my mesh beanies for men so here I am wearing a blue camo stripes mesh beanie that I made with yarn I had left over from the knitted beanie I made. I altered the pattern a bit in that on the brim I only did one round of single crochet stitches. I think I like the cap much better that way.

Well that is all I have to show for now. I still haven’t thought up a name for my beanie shop yet, however I am thinking about opening a temporary shop on etsy so that I can start selling my hats before winter is over. I’m just not feeling very creative at coming up with a name right now even though I have had a few ideas… but none I cared to stick with. Well I’m going out to take a walk and enjoy the autumn scenery. Later!

Autumn Stripes And Williamsburg Print Beanies

Saturday, November 1st, 2008

I just finished two new beanies and here they are ready for you to feast your eyes on…

First up is my Williamsburg Print Beanie. There are so many colors in this beanie it’s almost unreal and I had a most fun adventure knitting this up. There are multiple shades of blue, green, purple, red, and gold. I really love this beanie and all the colors it has. I can almost promise you this will be a cap you can wear to match almost anything and it will be available in my shop (soon hopefully).

The second most recently finished beanie I have created is this very seasonal Autumn Stripes Beanie. When I bought the yarn to make this cap I was a little weirded out because I wasn’t sure how this cap was going to knit up. However, as I was getting through to having about 20 rounds completed on it I could tell it was going to be an extremely awesome looking beanie. I think I was right about that after seeing the finished product. This cap I can definitely say is very color matched for the autumn season, but I think it’s a color combination that would be beautiful throughout the whole winter months. Autumn and spring time are my favorite seasons of the year. I love this hat so much that I think I’m gonna have second thoughts about putting it up for sale in my shop haha… I’m gonna have to make another one or a few because it will hard to let this one go I’m sure.

So there you have it… my lasted new cool beanies. I’ve been knitting up a storm the past few days to get these finished and I’m going to continue on because I really need to get my inventory built up to be ready for my grand opening. I think I am going to project a goal to have the grand opening for my beanie shop on January 1st, 2009. Yeah I know that is a weird date to think about opening up a new shop since that will be right after Christmas but I think opening up a new shop for myself on that date would be a wonderful way to start off the new year… but that is not set in stone just yet… it is just an idea… I still don’t have a name for my shop yet. :-(

Pink Camo Skull Cap

Monday, September 15th, 2008

It is time for another show and tell. I just finished this 2X2 rib stitch knit beanie skull cap done in a pink camouflage print yarn. I actually started this cap near the end of this past winter but when summer came along I forgot all about it because I was too busy getting outdoors going to the lake and doing other fun summer activities. I am going to be making some more of these caps as soon as I get finished working on all of the tams that I am making right now. I have promised myself that I won’t buy any more yarn until I have used up all of the yarn that I currently have which is a lot…. so I have a lot of hats to make before I can buy some more yarn…. and I really want to buy some more yarn because I have found some really cool new colors that I am anxious to try out.

Two Scarfs And Five Tams Finished

Thursday, September 4th, 2008

The seven items pictured above are my reasons for not posting much over the past few days. I have been very busy hibernating in my bedroom for the past two days making scarfs and learning how to crochet tam hats. I actually have three scarfs completed although I only photographed two of them. The tam hats, or berets as some people like to call them, are very cool and they stitch up kinda fast. I made those five tams in two days. I would have been able to make more in that time, but much of the time I spent making them was experimental as I needed to get the sizing just right. Hats are a little tricky for me sometimes, but I love making these tams. These tams can be worn by both men and women depending on your color choice. The pattern is a “granny stitch” pattern made in the round which looks really cool when worn. I will post a display photo of some of these tams at a later date so that you can see how they fit.

I have an update on the news about my upcoming hemp jewelry shop. I have sort of come up with a name for the shop although I am not ready to reveal it just yet. The reason for that is because in order for me to take over the name of the domain I want for it, which is currently in a locked status, I have to wait for it to expire so that hopefully I can purchase it and start using it for myself. The particular domain I want is set to expire on September 11th, 2008, but I think there is a short waiting period before it can be purchased by someone else. I’m really not sure how all that works so all I know is I might get it and I might not, but I’m hoping that I do get it. It is a really cool, simple, and fun name which would make a very cool domain name as well as a business name and I might also gain a new nickname from it. I am really excited about it, and I wish that I could reveal the name I have chosen, but if I want to be able to purchase the domain when it expires I have to keep it under wraps for now so that nobody can snatch it out from under me before I have a chance at it.

Some of you may be wondering why I keep talking about my new hemp jewelry shop when all I’ve been showing lately is crocheted and knitted items I’ve made. Well the reason for that is simply because I really haven’t had a chance or any inspiration to create any hemp jewelry lately, but I have lots of hemp jewelry left over from my previous online hemp jewelry shop so basically you could say that I simply want to carry over from where I left off before. Maybe I’ll do some more show and tell soon and dig out some of the hemp jewelry I have in shop so that you can get an idea of what my hemp jewelry looks like.

So that is all for now. I am going to watch a movie now (Transformers maybe) and work on some more tams. Later!!

How I Spent My 38th Birthday

Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008

Some may find this boring as hell. Some may say that I have absolutely no life at all. Yesterday was my 38th birthday and I celebrated it by staying at home watching television and working on my craft projects. I have been doing a lot of yarn stash busting so I knitted scarfs all day. I had thought about going out to do some shopping, but then I couldn’t think of anything I needed so I just turned on the tv and sat in my living room knitting. I played my video games as well. I’m still very much into Puzzle Quest so I spent a couple of hours playing that game. All in all my birthday was alright but I’m feeling kinda cheated though because I didn’t go out and buy myself anything. I always buy myself something for my birthday. It has been a tradition for me since my very first job in 1988 to buy myself something for my birthday, so I may have to go on a little shopping trip today. Maybe I’ll go to Gamestop and see if there are any cool used games on the rack. Or maybe I’ll just stay at home again today and knit some more. Who knows?

The Knitting Men Of PSU Altoona

Sunday, August 31st, 2008

I found this video on YouTube as I was searching for videos of men knitting. Why would I be searching youtube for videos of men knitting you say? Because I want the haters in the world with closed minds to see that knitting is not just a hobby for women…… that, and I was looking for content I could possibly add to my shop when I get it online.

A New Scarf For Me

Saturday, August 16th, 2008

I just wanted to show off this new 1X1 rib stitch scarf that I am knitting for myself to wear this winter. I actually started this scarf back in the spring but when summer came along I got to busy doing other things and I forgot all about it. Well over the past couple of weeks I have been trying to make myself pick it up and work on it. I have spent a lot of time working on it this weekend. In fact, I just finished spending two hours on it and my hands and fingers are a little sore because it’s been quite awhile since I spent that much time all at once knitting anything. Anyway, this is going to be a birthday present to myself this year, but I don’t know if I will get finished with it before my birthday gets here on September 1st. If I’m not finished by then it won’t be a big deal since it really doesn’t start getting too cold here in Alabama until around October anyway.

I have had a lot of fun over the past couple of days working on this scarf. It is the first 1X1 rib stitch scarf I have ever worked on and I must say that even with all of the flip flopping of the yarn back and forth over the needles it is going along quite fast. I guess I’ll keep knitting rows until I decide it’s long enough. I am planning to do something different with this scarf that I have never done on one of my scarfs before. I am going to attempt to put a crocheted slip stitch fringe on the ends of the scarf when I finish knitting it. I have seen crocheted fringe on a couple of scarfs other people have made and I kinda like the look of it.

Anyway, this is my current knitting project. Well, actually I have a few knitting projects going on right now, but this is my main one. I really want to get this finished soon so that I can start working on some new winter caps. I am thinking that I might open up a new shop online at the end of summer and start selling my caps, scarfs, and jewelry again.

I just realized that 90 percent of my current blog readers probably don’t know that I love to knit and do lots of other crafty things since I really haven’t blogged much about it over the summer. Well it looks like I have caught the knitting bug again so there will probably be a lot of knitting related posts coming and just possibly a new online store where you can buy my hand made things.
